I lived with heavy periods for 33 years. When I was young my periods lasted for five days, but as I got older they started lasting seven, eight, nine days. It seemed to get worse and worse the older I got. Once I hit about 40 it was unbelievable. It was hard to do anything.

I went on birth control. The only alternative I was given was a hysterectomy, and I wasn’t ready for that.
